Designated Waiting Areas

Each building has a marked designated waiting area. A designated waiting area (DWA) is a location where individuals with mobility impairments should relocate during a building evacuation. While DWAs are most often located near stairwells, individuals should check floor plans posted at the elevators to find that floor's DWA. On the left is an example of a floor plan located near an elevator. The DWA is marked with the wheelchair symbol. Click the image to see a full sized version of the layout. During an emergency DWAs are checked by campus police and emergency responders. On the right is a picture of the sign used to denote a DWA. Click the image on the right to see it at full size and read the full text. For the DWA location in a building, see the last item described on the building webpage selected.
